Got an old PC and its too slow now for modern software? Don't want to spend 1000's on a new PC? Why not do what all the manufacturer's don't want you to do - upgrade! Just think about it. The monitor, keyboard, mouse, cdrom, 3.5 inch floppy disk drive are virtually the same between older machines and new ones. The monitor still makes up one of the most expensive components. So why chuck these away? Even the hard disk drives and memory can be used. The cost to upgrade from a 486 to 200MHz pentium can be very small. All you need to do is upgrade the motherboard and processor. The Cyrix and AMD chipsets also offer significant price advantages over Intel chipsets. They are more than adequate for general purpose use. The Intel chips score on floating point operations which usually means processing 3D graphics. We would advise on an upgrade of memory to at least 32MB and preferably 64MB. The little extra this costs will make all the difference. If you wish to update your hard disk we recommend at least a 4GB sized UDMA drive. If you have problems with your PC and want advice we would be pleased to try to help. For customers based in the UK we can offer a personal upgrade service.
